Update from Dr. Luttrell 7-19-20

Good afternoon Tiger Families.

I hope this message finds each of you well and enjoying this last bit of summer.  I would like to communicate some important information that will hopefully answer questions you may have.  If your question is not answered, please contact me via email, luttrelll@gcschools.net, or call the school at 423.639.2751.  I will return your call or answer your message as quickly as I can.

Please complete the 2020-2021 Learning Option Survey by 5 pm on Monday, July 20th  found on our GCS website.  If you have already filled out the survey and would like to change your response, you will need to fill out the survey and again with your updated choice.  Our reopening plan and frequently asked questions are posted on our GCS website.

Temperatures will be taken each morning upon arrival at school by students and staff.  If a student or staff has a temperature of 100 or greater, they will be sent home.  A space has been created for students with a temperature or exhibiting symptoms until they can be picked up.

Students in grades PreK -5 are strongly encouraged to wear masks to school.  Staff members are arranging classrooms to space students as much as possible. When students are 6 ft apart and appropriately socially distanced, they may take off their masks. Teachers and staff members will wear masks as well but may remove them when they are at least 6 ft apart.  When students are in hallways, on buses, on bus duty masks will be worn as they will be with students from other grade levels

Students are encouraged to have their own supply box/pack with pencils, crayons, etc.  Students may also have an individual sized bottle of hand sanitizer.  Students will wash their hands and utilize hand sanitizer several times throughout the day.

Students will be allowed to go to special classes and cleaning protocols will be used between grade levels to sanitize the special class areas between groups of students.

Students will be assigned to a lunch schedule to eat in their classrooms and in the cafeteria.  When eating in the classrooms, lunches will be brought to students.  We would like for students to move around as much as possible, but we will remain within safety guidelines.

Playgrounds will be disinfected each morning with an approved cleaning solution by the custodial team.  Students will go to the playground on a schedule to allow for a smaller number of students to be on the playground at one time.

Cleaning solutions of approved cleaner will be available for staff in areas of the building to use throughout the day in all student areas.   Custodians will be deep cleaning touchpoints each day.

Visitors will be allowed in schools only by appointment only.  Please call the school if you need to make an appointment. We will not be able to allow families to eat with students during breakfast or lunch at this time. If you need to check out your student, you will need to call the office.  Upon arrival, you will ring the buzzer outside the school and your student will come to you.

We are all working together to provide a safe environment and a GCS education for all of our students.  We appreciate your support as we move forward with our plans for the 2020-2021 school year

Hope to see you soon!
