TN Commissioner of Education Schwinn Visits Tusculum View Elementary

The Commissioner was welcomed to Tusculum View Elementary by Greeneville City Schools (GCS) Board Chair, Cindy Luttrell, Board member Pam Botta, Town of Greeneville Mayor W.T. Daniels, City Manager Todd Smith, State Representative David Hawk, GCS Assistant Director for Instruction Dr. Suzanne Bryant, GCS Director Steve Starnes, and Tusculum View Elementary staff. After the welcome outside, the Commissioner was greeted by Student Ambassadors inside the school. The Commissioner was given a tour by Principal Dr. Lana Luttrell.

While at Tusculum View the Commissioner observed multiple models of online learning as well as in-person hybrid instruction. She was able to observe classrooms where online and in-person students were learning together, traditional learning in a hybrid model, and a classroom with the teacher in a remote setting while the students were in-person. The Commissioner spent time talking with students about their learning and observing the innovative instructional practices throughout the school.

Commissioner Schwinn stated, “We had a wonderful visit to Greeneville City Schools. Director Starnes, district staff, and the school community are very clearly continuing to prioritize students’ health and safety as well as academic progress. The collaborative environment and positive culture at Tusculum View Elementary has clearly fostered creative, thoughtful solutions in the midst of a challenging year. Greeneville City Schools and the community it serves have a lot to be proud of and I was so happy to be a part of it while I was visiting.”

Tusculum View Elementary School Principal Dr. Lana Luttrell stated, “ Tusculum View students and staff were honored to welcome Commissioner Schwinn and Dr. Corwin to see the innovation, hard work, and determination to teach and learn despite the challenges we are facing.  Our staff and students are dedicated to safety, excellence, and always rising up to the challenges we face with a spirit of victory and teamwork!”
